There are few foods that can be avoided, especially during periods, to worsen the symptoms of your period. Otherwise, it can be taken in desirable quantities.
During periods, add very less or no salt to your foods and also avoid highly processed foods that contain a lot of sodium. Consuming a lot of salt leads to water retention, which results in bloating.
Sugar levels in your body can have an impact on your mood. If it is high then you may feel moody, depressed, or anxious during your period. Less intake of sugar can regulate your mood.
Caffeine present in coffee and tea can cause water retention and bloat. Hence, reduce the intake or stop taking beverages if it is not habitual. Coffee might also cause diarrhea during your period, so stop taking coffee if you experience this condition.
Alcohol dehydrates the body and can worsen headaches and cause bloating. It can aggravate the symptoms of periods. Hence it is better to avoid alcohol during menstruation.
Red meat is rich in iron but it is also high in prostaglandins. Since our body produces sufficient prostaglandins before menstrual cycle begins and causes blood flow, intake of red meat can result in very high levels of prostaglandins causing severe cramps. Hence, red meat should be avoided during menstruation.
